Exploring Candidacy

for Knee Surgery

Surgery may be a good option to alleviate knee pain and other symptoms if you:

  • Have Tried Other Options

Our surgeons in Tijuana, Mexico, may recommend nonsurgical treatment first. Many patients find success through pain medication, physical therapists, and weight loss that can reduce pressure on the knees. However, if you've tried these nonsurgical methods with little success, we may recommend surgery.

  • Are in Good Health

Patients must be healthy enough to undergo surgery and recover from it. During your consultation, be sure to tell your surgeon about any medications you're taking and any medical conditions you have. We also recommend not using nicotine products in the months leading up to your surgery and for several months after.

Our orthopedists in Tijuana, Mexico, can help alleviate your pain and restore mobility through orthopedic treatments and surgery.

Knee Arthroscopy Minimally Invasive Knee Joint Repair

This minimally invasive orthopedic procedure can diagnose and treat a wide range of knee problems. During this procedure, a small incision is made in the knee and a camera is inserted. This allows your surgeon to get a better look at the cartilage, ligaments, bones like the patella (kneecap), and other knee structures to diagnose your condition. Your surgeon can then make more small incisions through which to insert surgical tools to treat conditions like inflammation, fractures, and soft tissue injuries of the knee joint.

Though knee arthroscopy can be a good way to treat issues with the ligaments, cartilage, and bone, it isn't always the best treatment for osteoarthritis. For this, we may recommend knee replacement.

Undergoing Knee Replacement Surgery

Knee replacement surgery is typically performed on patients who are struggling with knee pain and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis, a condition that causes cartilage to wear away. There are two types of knee replacement surgeries available to you at our hospital in Tijuana, Mexico:

  • Knee Replacement

During knee replacement surgery, the damaged portions of the kneecap and other bones that form the knee are replaced with metal and plastic implants.

  • Total Knee Replacement

During total knee replacement surgery, damaged cartilage and bone are removed and the entire knee joint is replaced.

Results After Surgery

After knee replacement or total knee replacement, patients typically experience reduced or eliminated pain, improved mobility, and overall better quality of life. Typically, knee replacement implants last 15-20 years, but you can expect general wear and tear over time. When it's time to replace your knee implants, orthopedic surgeons can perform knee revision surgery.
